Elanco celebrates anniversary, announces Animal X-Factor

Elanco is celebrating its one-year anniversary as an independent company after spinning off from Eli Lilly and Company.

Jeff Simmons, CEO of Elanco, says the company is faster, more customer-centered and resource-driven. He says in the past year the company has added innovation to its pipeline that will help bring solutions to farmers, veterinarians, and pet owners.

Simmons tells Brownfield Elanco has established a corporate social responsibility platform to highlight how healthy animals can unlock solutions to some of the top issues facing the industry.

“We believe animals are relevant to society’s biggest issues and can be what we call an x-factor, a game-changing solution,” he says. “We hit on three of those big issues (during an event today at Elanco’s headquarters) including physical health, mental health, and environmental health.”

He says animals are necessary to increasing sustainability and finding solutions to environmental issues.

“The animal is an enabler and is essential to a sustainable world,” he says. “So, we have to turn that around, whether it’s over 60 percent of the land can’t be used for anything except animal grazing or turning a farm carbon neutral or greenhouse gas neutral.”

Simmons says healthy animals are the solution to some of the industry’s top issues.

Along with the corporate social responsibility framework, he says more goals will be announced soon including the formation of a foundation.
