Minnesota farmer concerned Trump is out of touch with her profession

A south-central Minnesota farmer is concerned President Trump is out of touch with farmers.

Angela Guentzel farms and helps run a seed business with her family north of Mankato and says Trump is an interesting follow on Twitter.

“We’ve heard of many Tweets of course saying that farmers are happy. And I think that Tweets maybe won’t be the most reliable source.”

The Minnesota Farm Bureau member recently visited with lawmakers in Washington D.C. as part of the Federation’s annual fly-in.

She tells Brownfield it’s frustrating being misrepresented while critical markets are damaged by trade disruptions and RFS waivers.

“It’s a tough situation to be in. It’s kind of like you feel spoken for when it’s not quite what’s being presented. And maybe there are some farmers happy with what’s going on, and I know there are some issues that the President is directly addressing. But it’s maybe not the way I would’ve gone about that.”

Guentzel says the reality is farmers are struggling and looking for a ray of hope, whether through trade agreements or the reallocation of lost biofuel volumes.
