Mexican trade officials anxious to see USMCA ratified by Congress

Mexican trade officials are anxious for the U.S. Congress to ratify USMCA.

Minnesota Pork CEO David Preisler met with members of Mexico’s Embassy in Washington, D.C. last week and says there’s an eagerness to get the agreement across the finish line.

“I talked with both their agriculture and economics representatives. It was really helpful to make sure we’re on the same page.”

He points out USMCA has already passed in Mexico.

“And really what they’re looking for, and I think it’s the same as U.S. agriculture, is certainty and stability. And by passing USMCA, we would achieve that.”

Canada plans to wait until the U.S. ratifies USMCA before doing the same.

Preisler tells Brownfield the longer ratification is drawn out, the more election year politics could derail the agreement.
