DIY DOGGIE SLEEP SUITE

I had a concept but not a clear vision, and that’s when my son stepped in and created a DIY Doggie Sleep Suite. A place for the Boys to call home.

As the renovation saga in our house continues, I’ve found myself dreaming of a DIY Doggie Sleep Suite for the Boys. A place they could –

  • call their own,
  • feel somewhat “den-ish” like their ancestors
  • live together – comfortably…
A good night’s sleep is essential for these two hard working therapy pups

Never in my wildest dreams could I have ever imagined what they actually received!

AUGUST 1st, MY BIRTHDAY –

My birthday fell on a weekend this year. As a surprise (his van loaded with tools) my son drove down to hang out with his “momma” for a few days.

A few hours after his arrival he asked what could he build for me as a birthday present. There are still many, many projects around the house that need completion, but everything I rattled off – he wasn’t “inspired” to tackle.

The four bedrooms upstairs are finished. In the master bedroom, we knew we would not use this closet…

This is great space, but I wasn’t sure for what #exactly

We converted the adjoining bedroom into an entire closet. That is why we didn’t need the original closet…

The doorway is the entrance into my bedroom

We removed the doors off of the old closet, but I still wasn’t quite sure what to do with it.

I wanted to do something unique with the space, so for the time being, I tossed a couple of dog beds in there. Instantly Harley fell in love with the little nook area…

When Harley snores in his sleep I know he’s comfy. That night he was loud!!!!

OPERATION SLEEP SUITE –

The weekend my son was in town, he sat at the kitchen island, talking to me and doodling away on a piece of paper as I cooked breakfast. Afterwards, he said to my husband –

Come on Pops – I’ve got an idea, ride with me to Home Depot.

He kissed my forehead and slid this piece of paper towards me as he whistled his way out the door…

I know, looks like chicken scratch – that’s how he writes LOL

Trust me, I really had no clue how to interpret this but I was excited all the same.

They worked two days straight – he and his dad – while I kept the cold water and meals coming…

The older they get, the more similar they become. #loveit

The weekend was full of shenanigans, constant laughter with music playing all the right songs. He is a character and I love his spirit…

Good times and laughter are great for the spirit and soul

MOVE IN DAY –

By the time his van disappeared down the street – headed north – the Boys “sleep suite” was complete…

What a wonderful way to make use of space.
  • There’s enough space for them both.
  • The extra molding around the frame gives them that “tucked in” feeling, which works wonders when the Citadel play their football games and shoot the cannon for touchdowns and field goals. #yestheydo
  • They’re elevated off the ground with a nice platform so they can see me and I can see them.
  • There is plenty of head space for Jaxson to stand up AND it’s 30 inches deep for him to stretch those long legs if he wants.

WALL OF FAME –

Through the years, with this blog, living in Charleston, working as therapy pups, they have met some incredible people and have had quite a few “once in a lifetime” experiences.

To me that warranted their own wall of fame. Photo’s to capture those “special” moments…

Yes, Jaxson is always smiling…

Here’s a close up of those photo’s Harley, Jaxson and I chose to display…

I need more frames …

The very first night the new beds went in, they’ve made it their home.

Harley has yet to jump up in my bed, and Jaxson will only come up there if his breakfast is late and he wants to remind me that “it is time.” #theyhavemetrained

The Boys have endured a lot these last 22 months #notthatIamcounting

They too deserve something special from all the construction.

Everyday, when I walk in my bedroom – I can’t help but smile and think –

that was the best birthday ever!

Thanks for reading, please come back again…

PS: The Citadel has had two home games this season all ready, and the Boys did well in their sleep suite while I watched Netflix. #lifeisgood

I love it! The wall of fame is perfect. And Buddy is so talented. He’s dance moves aren’t so bad either lol.

Didn’t he do an incredible job! And the Boys always love company, it’s cute to watch them scoot over when I sit down in there with them. Can’t wait for you to see it!

They are loving their space and I like the fact that I can once again stretch out in my own bed – occasionally. LOL

Happy Belated Birthday Cathy and what a wonderful gift! Thanks for the inspiration as well, since we are building a house with a rather large master bedroom and I had run out of ideas of what to do with it… And Pedro will need siblings to share it with! (Don’t tell my husband… yet).
As always, it’s such a pleasure to read you!

Hello Alessandra – how are you????? How’s Pedro doing? Yes, the Boys are loving their sleep suite. I mean, they have taken serious ownership of it – they even have their favorite sides LOL Can’t make this one up! Once Harley was on Jaxson’s side and I couldn’t stop laughing because Jaxson just stood there waiting for Harley to move over. I had to intervene because Harley could have cared less. These two continue to crack me up! Take care, hugs to Pedro too!
