RIO RANCHO — Authorities took at least one woman protesting a Donald Trump rally into custody Monday night.

The woman, who identified herself as Jackie Montoya to a Sun-News reporter earlier in the evening, was seen physically resisting New Mexico State Police officers who tried to escort her away from the scene.

Río Rancho resident Jackie Montoya is detained by New Mexico State Police after an altercation with a Donald Trump supporter outside a Trump rally at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019.

Montoya was outside the Santa Ana Star Center protesting the president's visit to New Mexico. At one point, she stood in line with Trump supporters waiting to enter the arena.

On her personal Facebook page Tuesday, Montoya wrote in a public posting, "I was standing in line peacefully and I got told from everyone multiple times 'go back to where you belong we don’t want you over here.' Someone’s grandpa then asked me how much to buy me for the night."

She added that after a woman put her hand in Montoya's face, "I smacked it out of my way and she then called the police over claiming battery."

About 7:25 p.m., authorities approached Montoya to say her actions could get her arrested. She was then taken away by two officers while her companion — another woman — said, "we're leaving, we're leaving."

Politics:Here's why anti-Trump protest in New Mexico was abruptly canceled

Confrontations between Trump protesters and supporters were relatively tame outside the Santa Ana Star Center, though the banter between protesters and supporters included some angry encounters.

Authorities maintained a buffer zone between the two groups, with protesters initially confined to a designated area on the opposite side of Market Street. Protesters later migrated to an area near the front of the Star Center, closer to supporters of the president.
