Wet week in Wisconsin hinders harvesting, fall work

Another wet week in Wisconsin halted most fieldwork when many farmers were about to harvest more hay and silage.  The rains totaled more than 10 inches in some areas.  What little corn chopping and manure spreading that was done happened early in the week.  Many USDA reporters say they have standing water in fields all around the state.  Farmers are telling them they’re nervous about harvesting in muddy conditions.

Corn silking is now 95% complete with 78% in the dough stage.  Only 2% of corn for grain is mature.

Ninety-five percent of soybeans have bloomed with 88% setting pods and 33% of the beans are coloring.  About 6% are dropping leaves.

Winter wheat planting stalled at 10% and cover crop planting was also brought to a halt in most areas because of the rains.

The potato harvest is 39% complete.
