NASDA elects Goehring as new president

North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring is the new president of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture.

Goehring says although agriculture is different in each state, NASDA members have the same purpose of representing their farming and ranching communities.

“I want to continue to build on the credibility that NASDA has,” he says. “That means illustrating inclusion, celebrating our diversity, and recognizing our similarities.”

He says farmers and ranchers are struggling to get by, which is why it’s time to leverage NASDA’s nonpartisanship to get things accomplished in Washington D.C.

NASDA will also develop a new strategic plan in 2020.

CEO Barb Glenn says “The future is totally bright because we’re going to have a new strategic plan under our new president Goehring. That’s in action and it’s a great time to have new strategies. That’s bolstered by the member value work that has happened and new NASDA staff-driven core values.”

Also elected to NASDA’s Board of Directors were Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles as vice president, New York Commissioner of Agriculture Richard Ball as second vice president, and Wyoming Director of Agriculture Doug Miyamoto as secretary treasurer. New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte will serve as NASDA’s Past President and Indiana Director of Agriculture Bruce Kettler will serve in the at-large position. Vermont Secretary of Agriculture Anson Tebbetts, Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward, California Secretary of Agriculture Karen Ross, and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig will serve as the Northeastern, Southern, Western, and Midwestern representatives respectively.

Goehring will host the 2020 annual meeting in Medora, North Dakota August 30 to September 2.
