Farmers securing propane ahead of harvest

Many farmers expect to dry down crops this fall.

Trevor Holm, a Wyffels Hybrids district sales manager in southwest Minnesota, says propane comes up in just about every conversation with farmers right now.

“They’re buying propane since it’s a pretty good value, and a couple have purchased about twice as much as they have over their last five-year average.”

He tells Brownfield crop maturity varies widely in his corner of the state.

“The guys over in Cottonwood County, almost right to the border of Murray County, were able to get in two, three, even four weeks earlier than a lot of the guys in Murray County. We had about a six-week spread of planting dates it seemed like. So yeah, crops are in a lot of different stages of life.”

Holm anticipates a long, drawn out harvest with yields lower than average.
