Arizona couple killed in head-on collision on New Mexico State Road 26 near Hatch

DOÑA ANA - New Mexico State police investigated a double fatal crash that occurred on Highway 26 near Hatch, Wednesday. 

Police were called to the crash involving two vehicles on New Mexico Highway 26 at 2:11 p.m. near Mile Post 44 just west of Hatch. 

The initial investigation indicated a 2008 Chrysler driven by Jerry Douglas Livingston, 76, of Tucson, AZ was traveling east on NM Highway 26. For unknown reasons the Chrysler crossed over the center line, into oncoming traffic of the westbound lane and struck the left side of a commercial motor vehicle’s trailer that was traveling west.

The driver of Chrysler, Jerry Livingston and a passenger, Margaret Ann Livingston, 72, also of Tucson, AZ both sustained fatal injuries and were both pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The driver of the commercial motor vehicle was uninjured in the crash. 

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash and seatbelts do appear to have been properly used. The name of the driver for the CMV will not be released due to no charges being filed. No additional information is available.
