Indigo raises 2019 corn projections, lowers soybeans

Boston-based Indigo Agriculture is projecting more corn and fewer soybean acres in 2019 than their August report.

Indigo has end of season corn production at 12.5 billion bushels with an average yield just over of 159 bushels per acre. That is 500 million higher than their August report but still 1.3 billion bushels fewer than the USDA’s September supply and demand report.

Indigo has soybeans at 3.4 billion bushels with an average yield of slightly more than 45 bushels per acre, which is 300 million fewer than their August report and 200 million fewer than USDA’s guess.

Using daily images from satellites, weather data and crop condition reports, Indigo has identified nearly 1.8 billion bushels of corn, almost 12% of the US crop, are at risk of being cut short if an early frost takes place. With an average frost Indigo predicts 800 million bushels are still at risk, mainly in North and South Dakota and Ohio.
