Parson glad SB 391 in play

Governor Mike Parson says he’s glad Senate Bill 391 that he signed into law is now in play, after a judge removed the restraining order against its implementation, “It’s going to be back in play. We’ll see what happens in the court challenges but right now, it’s the right thing to do to protect our farmers in the state of Missouri. And I’m always going to lead with that.”

Last week, the Cole County judge lifted his restraining order on the law that was meant to go into effect August 28th. The law prevents counties from adopting regulations that are stricter than state law for CAFOs (concentrated animal feeding operations).

Attorney Robert Brundage for the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, the Missouri Pork Producers Association and the Missouri Farm Bureau tells Brownfield the judge cancelled a hearing set for Monday on a preliminary injunction,

“The plaintiffs in this case asked the court to cancel that hearing and, of course, we did not object. So, the next thing we’ve got going on is that we have to file responsive pleadings like an answer to the petition and go through the normal discovery process before a trial is set.”

Brownfield Ag News interviewed Parson and Brundage at the Means Family Farm where Missouri commodity groups came out to endorse Governor Parson.
