Twelfth Judicial District Attorney John P. Sugg was appointed to the New Mexico Sentencing Commission.

Sugg was appointed by New Mexico House Minority Leader James Townsend (R-N.M.) who oversees Eddy, Chaves and Otero Counties as representative of District 54.

The Sentencing Commission is a resource for criminal and juvenile justice policy for the three branches of state government that provides cross-agency impartial information and assistance with an emphasis on public safety, according to a press release from Sugg's office.

The Commission is comprised of representatives within the criminal justice system to include executive and judicial branches of state government, legislator appointees, law enforcement, criminal defense attorneys and citizens.

“I am honored to have received the appointment from Minority Leader Townsend,” Sugg said. “I will work hard to bring balance to the commission and provide a conservative voice with a strong emphasis on crime victims’ rights.”
