Wisconsin 2018 potato statistics released

As Wisconsin’s potato harvest continues, USDA has released the 2018 harvest statistics.

Wisconsin potato production last year was down 9% from 2017 with 27.1 million hundredweight.  Growers planted 67-thousand acres of potatoes last year, three thousand less than the year before.

Yield per acre was also down in 2018.  The average was 405 hundredweight per acre compared to 425 hundredweight in 2017.

USDA says the total value of the Wisconsin crop fell from 324-million dollars in 2017 to 285-million dollars in 2018.

Wisconsin ranks third in the nation for potato production, behind Idaho and Washington state.
