Illinois farmer sees potential for GSI GrainViz technology

A grain bin monitoring system caught the attention of an Illinois farmer at the Farm Progress show last month.

GSI’s GrainViz is different than other systems on the market by sending radio frequencies through the grain to detect moisture content in every bushel.

“I think that we would definitely be open to something like this.”

Heather Hampton-Knodle farms in Fillmore, Illinois. She tells Brownfield they currently have a cabling system in their bins.

“If we target 14.9%, it will be there. That has really been impressive considering we are just running fans.”

But, she says GrainViz could be more beneficial for larger grain storage situations and has the potential to provide more information beyond moisture management and temperature.

“To things like oil content. Things that can have a real impact when you look at livestock feeding and other uses for our grain.”

Hampton-Knodle says she would like to see the user interface and more advanced features added before investing in the technology on her farm.

A GSI representative tells Brownfield GrainViz is expected to be out of testing and available to farmers in 2020.
