Two suspects are behind bars in connection to the attempted armed robbery and shooting death of a 48-year-old man in Tempe last week.

Kody Jebediah Parker, 29, and 37-year-old Armando Junior Crews were arrested on Tuesday "for their involvement in this investigation," Tempe police said Friday.

Both Parker and Crews were arrested on one count of first-degree murder, one count of attempted armed robbery, one count of endangerment and one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Parker was also arrested on one count of misconduct involving weapons.

Tempe police and fire crews responded to the area of Hardy and University drives around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 in reference to a shooting.

Officers and medical staff found 48-year-old Jimmy Lee Williams with a gunshot wound to his neck.

Williams was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but he later died of his injuries.

Investigators found that Williams was "specifically targeted for what was a planned robbery," Tempe police said.

"There are no known additional threats to the public regarding this shooting and detectives are currently investigating this incident," Tempe PD said in a statement at the time of the shooting.

Shortly after officers responded to the shooting call, police and fire crews responded to the area of U.S. 60 and Priest Drive after a car was reported in the canal.

The people in the car fled and the car was found unoccupied, Bacon added.

Bacon said the two incidents were not believed to be related and the driver was later found.

Impairment may have been a factor in the crash, he added.
