Rain in south Phoenix during a monsoon storm on Sept. 1, 2019.

The Phoenix area will see a slight uptick in monsoon storm chances in the early part of next week, which could lead to a dip in high temperatures back into the 90s for a few days, the National Weather Service said.

Winds are expected to pick up Sunday afternoon, with a 30% chance of showers rolling in later in the evening after 11 p.m.

Phoenix's chances for rainfall are between 20 to 30% from Sunday night through Wednesday. Matthew Hirsch, a National Weather Service meteorologist, said the rain is expected to be "scattered showers" over that period.

Saturday's high was expected to reach about 108, then drop to 101 on Sunday, But the Phoenix area then is expected to see high temperatures from the mid- to upper-90s next week from Monday through Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

And with that, overnight lows also will drop, ranging from 77 to 84 degrees.

Temperatures will climb back over 100 by late in the week, officials said.
