Upper Midwest dairy farms report record quality milk

A recent analysis by the Upper Midwest Federal Milk Marketing Order finds somatic cell counts in the region were the lowest ever in 2018.

The report looks at SCC levels from 2006 to 2018 and found levels have been declining consistently to 182,000 last year.

Smaller herds shipping up to 50,000 pounds a month had the highest counts.

Wisconsin had the lowest levels while Illinois had one of the highest.  The order also includes Minnesota, parts North and South Dakota, Michigan, and Iowa.
