Hawley says need to stand firm with China

Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley says he does not see an end to the tariff standoff with China any time soon. The Republican and strong ally of President Trump said at a visit in West Plains he has heard from farmers across Missouri about how they are being impacted by Chinese tariffs.

“Our farmers have been the focus of retaliation by China which is just another bad thing that China’s done. I mean, they’ve been ripping us off for years. They won’t give us a fair trade deal. But the president tells me is that they will not agree to any enforcement mechanism in the deal.”

Hawley says if the U.S. does not stand firm with China, he fears they will eventually shut the U.S. trade out of the entire region.

Last week, Missouri Republican Congressman Billy Long, another strong Trump ally, said he thinks it’s time to bring the trade battle to a close.
