Newbury Park home invaders targeted elderly pair

Staff reports

Authorities continue to look for the robbers who invaded a Newbury Park home earlier this week and made off with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

At about 1:20 a.m. Thursday, police learned that two 74-year-old residents of a home along La Cam Road, across from the intersection of Lynn and Kelly roads, had been asleep in bed when they were awakened by a loud noise coming from the front of the home.

The man went to investigate the noise and found his front glass door had been shattered, and he was confronted by five masked men in dark clothing, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. The robbers demanded money, but the victim did not have any cash to provide, and the robbers stole several thousand dollars worth of jewelry, authorities said.

Earlier this week, authorities reported that the residents were tied up during the home invasion.

At least one of the robbers was armed with a handgun, according to authorities.

The robbers fled the area by unknown means and in an unknown direction.
