Move-in day: CSU Channel Islands students move into home away from home

Ventura

Lugging bins of clothing and bundles of necessities, hundreds of students descended on CSU Channel Islands this week as the university prepares for the start of the fall semester.

In fact, 1,520 students will call the Camarillo campus home. On Friday, they moved into residence halls and tried to personalize their living spaces with colorful printed sheets and a few potted plants.

They are among the 7,285 students who will attend classes this school year, according to the university. It's the highest enrollment since the college opened in 2002.

To accommodate the on-campus residents, CSUCI set up a central check-in area Friday at its El Dorado Park and and then students fanned out to their housing assignments. The park also hosted a voter registration area and items for sale from the bookstore among other resources.

Classes officially start Saturday but for most students the semester begins Monday.
