Farmer says his crops are average to below average

A central Indiana farmer says his crops would be in good shape if it was July.

Phil Ramsey says his crops are average at best.

“We have farms that look terrible and we have some corn and soybeans that look fantastic,” he says. “As of now, I’m going to say that we’re going to have an average to slightly below average crop with what we got planted. We did have about 150 acres that we did not plant.”

Ramsey tells Brownfield farmers are concerned about an early frost.

“It would be devastating across the whole country if an early frost would happen,” he says. “It would turn everything upside down because we need not an average frost, we need a late frost.”

He says his crops need timely rains as well as sunny and warm conditions in the coming weeks.

Ramsey grows corn and soybeans in Shelby County.
