Alamogordo woman struck by vehicle in Hobbs dies from injuries

LEA COUNTY —  An Alamogordo woman was struck by a passenger vehicle just north of Hobbs, Monday night and died from her injuries shortly after the crash at a nearby hospital.

Callie Bennett, 37, of Alamogordo, was walking on the southbound lane of Knowles Road near Prairie Dog Lane at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday night when a 22-year-old in a 2007 Hyundai struck her while she was in the middle of the road, according to a press release today from New Mexico State Police (NMSP).

Bennett sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at a hospital in the Hobbs area, by the Office of the Medical Investigator. According to NMSP, officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from Bennett.

The name of the hospital where Bennett died was not immediately released for the privacy of the family.

The driver of the vehicle was treated, released at the scene and is not facing charges.

The driver’s identity was not released.

NMSP are continuing to investigate the incident.
