Sendik's Food Market's $5 million expansion project at The Corners mixed-use development in the town of Brookfield is almost finished.

According to a news release, Sendik's will debut its new grocery and home store concept in mid-October.

The expanded store will be blended into the main shopping level at The Corners, while adding a mezzanine lounge and in-store dining and bar offerings. The grocery store will grow from 35,000 square feet to 40,000 square feet. Renovations began in January, and the store remained open during construction.

Among Sendik’s new offerings will be a bistro area, complete with a long list of wine by the glass, local craft beer on tap, gourmet espresso drinks, nitro cold brew on tap, fresh-squeezed, cold-pressed juices and homemade smoothies.

The bistro will also offer a menu of shareable small plates and appetizers, and seating for 25. Additionally, a new grill station will give shoppers the opportunity to order favorites from a grill-specific menu or have freshly selected meats and seafood grilled in real-time, the release said.

Sendik’s will also have the addition of a 7,000-square-foot Sendik’s Home store on the main shopping center level. The store will feature clothing selections, an in-store dressing room, an expansive floral shop, international gourmet food selections and an array of brand-name kitchen products.

A mezzanine area between the home store and grocery and bistro level below will act as a gathering space for customers and community members.

Construction is nearing completion on the $5 million, two-story Sendik’s Food
Market renovation at The Corners of Brookfield. The grocery store announced on Aug. 20 it will debut the new grocery store in October.

In addition, a new walkway will provide direct pedestrian access between Union Street and Bluemound Road.

“As The Corners continues to innovate and enhance the customer experience, we’re thrilled to be taking part and elevating the shopping experience to one that has never been done before in Southeastern Wisconsin,” said Ted Balistreri, co-owner at Sendik’s, in a statement.

Sendik’s is planning a weekend full of events and activities for its grand opening at The Corners, east of Barker Road between West Blue Mound Road and Interstate 94.

Other developments at The Corners

Sendik's grand opening follows the highly anticipated June opening of Silverspot Cinema.

The 41,000-square foot boutique theater features nine auditoriums across two stories, in-theater dining and a bar and lounge on the main level. The $30 million cinema's amenities include leather reclining seats throughout the theaters.

The cinema also features a cocktail lounge with indoor seating for more than 70 guests that expands onto an outdoor patio for additional seating in warm weather.

Also waiting to open is Wahlburgers.

The Corners of Brookfield town center will be home to the state’s first location of the Wahlburgers restaurant franchise. The 6,000-square-foot Wahlburgers will be on the northeast side of the center and will feature signature burgers, made-from-scratch recipes, and home-style sides. A grand opening date hasn't been announced yet.
