Business briefs: The big give at the Boys & Girls Club

AGE Nighthawks complete mission at Boys & Girls Club 

In order to show their appreciation for the local community Boys and Girls Club of Otero County via the Holloman “Big Give” project, TSGT Sara Farrauggia of the AGE Nighthawks recruited and lead a team of active duty career minded Holloman AFB volunteers to start refurbishing the resource development, Learning Center, Arts & Craft and all three Racquetball Courts at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Otero County.

They started working on the project on June 22 and concluded the “Big Give” project on August 11.

The project was initiated and completed by the Holloman AFB AGE Nighthawks. The final cost for the materials for this project came to $3,925. Funds for the materials were a collectively effort acquired through a number of donations secured by a couple of old fashioned car washes, out of pocket donations by local residents, two business sponsors which were Route 54 Furniture, B&T Auto, the active duty Holloman volunteers in addition to funds from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Otero County.

Farrauggia shared that the team spent over seven hundred physical man hours (and estimated a total cost saving of $15,000 in labor and company hiring/contract costs ) of doing task such as hammering, drilling cutting, grouting and painting in order to ensure the this “Big Give” project was completed on time, which was for the beginning of the new school year.

Farrauggia said that they initially started with sixteen individuals, however because of the enthusiasm and passion exhibited by other individuals to assist the Boys and Girls Clubs of Otero County, the number of volunteers grew to as many as twenty-six. 

When asked what she thought of the experience of working on a project such as this TSGT Farrauggia stated the following

“The AGE Nighthawks are just thankful to set the bar for excellence in regard to this “Big Give” project. Now, our entire squadron challenges all other Holloman squadrons to do something as outstanding as the AGE Nighthawks, or even better.”

On Saturday August 17th the Boys and Girls Clubs of Otero County, returned the love also by hosting a Potluck style dinner for all the volunteers at their location which is 201 Dale Scott Ave Alamogordo NM 88310.
