Wally Tyner, the James and Lois Ackerman Professor of Ag Economics at Purdue passed away after a brief illness Saturday.

Tyner joined the Purdue faculty in 1977 after earning his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Texas Christian University and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Maryland. He served as the head of Ag Economics at Purdue from 1989 to 2002.

Purdue Dean of Agriculture Karen Plaut says Tyner was an invaluable member of the Purdue community who lived the land-grant mission every day of his career.

Tyner was recognized for his research in energy, agriculture, climate, and natural resource policy analysis.

Jay Akridge, Purdue provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity says Tyner was an extraordinary leader, mentor, and teacher.
