Ibach aware of cattle producer concerns after Tyson fire

The sharp drop in cattle prices after the Tyson Foods packing plant fire in Kansas raised concerns with some producers. USDA Undersecretary Greg Ibach says he is aware of those concerns. “Initially when the markets adjusted and reacted immediately, there was some concern by a lot of different producers that maybe the market was overreacting. We’ve seen it adjust back some like we expected and anticipated.”

And, Ibach says USDA is paying attention. “As of yet, we haven’t
identified anything that we think is out of the ordinary, but again, we’re
going to keep watching to make sure that it stays that way.”

He says producers and sellers should contact the USDA Western Regional
Office in Denver about any payment or contract concerns at (303) 375-4240.
