Minnesota corn, soybean condition trending in opposite direction

The crop condition needle moved in slightly different directions for Minnesota corn and soybeans last week.

The latest report from USDA says corn rated good to excellent declined one percent to 55 percent.

Soybeans improved a percent to 60 percent good to excellent.

Crop development remains behind normal with 55 percent of corn in the dough stage compared to 74 percent on average.

Nearly 90 percent of soybeans are setting pods, about five days slower than normal.

The harvest of small grains is also behind with spring wheat at 14 percent, oats at 49 percent, and barley harvest 34 percent complete.

Pasture condition remains above 70 percent good to excellent statewide with the second cutting of alfalfa nearly finished.
