Roller coaster malfunction causes cars to collide; multiple kids taken to hospital

Ocean City police say five people, four children and one adult, were transported to Atlantic General Hospital Friday night after a roller coaster incident at Jolly Roger Amusement Park. 

OCPD Deputy Communications Manager Ashley Miller said at about 8:20 p.m. Friday night, officers responded to Jolly Roger near 30th Street to assist the Ocean City Fire Department. Miller said EMTs were assisting multiple people who had been injured after one of the roller coasters "malfunctioned."

"Officers learned that one of the roller coaster cars failed to stop as it was pulling into the loading area and struck the rear of another car that was loaded with passengers," Miller said in a written statement.

The car that was struck contained the four children and one adult who were then transported to AGH for "precautionary reasons."

Jolly Roger Amusement Park located near 30th Street is made up of multiple attractions, including go-karting, mini golf, a water park and roller coasters, according to its website. The park caters to families by offering "a wide range of family-friendly fun in Ocean City, Maryland with rides, amusements, games waterslides and more."
