Delilah over on Wire Jewelry has a fantastic tip for making netted or Viking knit wire bezels.  Two actually, if you include the foundation of wire wrapped loops.

This foundation is much better than just a simple wire frame as the horizontal plane loops act as a good support for the wooden skewers.  For comparison, see my tutorial on how to make a Viking knit bezel where I have hidden the wire frame behind the gemstone.  Here is an example :

I use a single small dowel to help create consistent bezel loops.  But Delilah's way is much easier, not just because of the support but also faster, as there are two skewers used simultaneously.

Another great thing is the two skewers can also be stabilized by poking through the previously formed bezel loops on the other side.
