Brownfield interviews steer winners at State Fair

All their hard work paid off for the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion steer exhibitors at this year’s Missouri State Fair.

Gage Baker is from Fulton, a member of the Rising Sun 4-H Club.  His Grand Champion market steer, named Fuzzy for his fuzzy ears, weighs 13-hundred-25 pounds. He tells Brownfield Ag News, “He’s from South Dakota… a long drive. We jackpotted him a lot. He’s done really good and he’s an overall good, fat steer.”

Mikaela Rojas, from New Boston and a member of the Shelby/Linn County 4-H Club, has the Reserve Grand Champion. She tells Brownfield, “His name is Buff. He’s a crossbred but he’s got some Charolais in him. We’ve been working hard with him all summer. He’s 13-hundred-50 pounds which is right where we wanted him to be for a fat steer.”

Both steers will be auctioned off along with the winning barrows, lambs, meat goats, chickens and rabbits at the Sale of Champions this Saturday afternoon at the state fair in Sedalia, Missouri.
