Northern Crops Institute welcomes international soybean buyers

The Northern Crops Institute recently hosted a group of international buyers interested in soybeans produced in the Upper Midwest.

Jena Bjertness says the Institute has been promoting crops grown in Minnesota, the Dakotas, and Montana since 1983.

“The goal is to just really expose these people to many uses for soybeans.”

She tells Brownfield the Institute’s latest INTSOY Course started in Minneapolis with a tour of an equipment manufacturer, followed by a visit to an area soybean farm.

“And then they come to Fargo and receive a myriad of presentations from people in the soy industry, whether it’s soy food, soy feed. We talk about soy as meat analog, soy as soy milk or tofu, soy as feed products, as well as an extruded full-fat soymeal.”

The group also stopped in Brookings where they learned about soy used in meat products, beverages, and aqua feeds.  The INTSOY Course ended at an elevator in Randolph, Minnesota.

Bjertness says customers from Sri Lanka, Ghana, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic participated.
