Armed robbery at Home Depot in Newbury Park leads to man's arrest, officials say

Thousand Oaks detectives arrested a man this week suspected of carrying out an armed robbery at the Home Depot in Newbury Park, authorities said.

The robbery took place around 2 p.m. Monday at the home improvement chain’s 2745 Teller Road store, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday. The site is in a commercial center on the north side of Highway 101 in the Newbury Park section of Thousand Oaks.

A man allegedly had brandished a weapon at employees before walking out with stolen merchandise, according to the sheriff’s agency, which provides police services in Thousand Oaks. Witnesses provided deputies with a description of the man and his vehicle.

On Tuesday, detectives learned Cardenas-Cespedes was in custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in Lost Hills for an unrelated issue. He was subsequently released to Ventura County authorities, who searched his vehicle and allegedly found evidence related to the robbery, authorities said.

Cardenas-Cespedes was arrested on suspicion of a felony armed robbery offense and remained in Ventura County jail as of Friday morning with bail set at $110,000, jail records show.
