10 Lessons from Psalms 51-100

The Psalms have a lot to teach us about God, His character, and even birth, life, and death of Jesus. Here are 10 lessons we can learn from Psalms 51-100. #Biblestudy #Psalms #WomensBibleStudy #GoodMorningGirls

Here’s 10 Lessons We Learned from Psalms 51-100

1. We need to continually cast our cares on the Lord.

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you;  he will never permit the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22)

We all cycle through the feelings of fear, wanting to flee or being furious with a life circumstance we are stuck in but eventually we must move to the place of faith.  When we give our fears, hurts, burdens and needs to God, God will sustain us in ways we could never imagine.  And though the trial may not change even one single bit – we will find that our hearts are lighter and our courage to face the day is stronger.

2. God is for you!

You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call.  This I know, that God is for me.  (Psalm 56:8,9)

David knew that God saw his sleepless nights.  David knew that God saw every tear that fell on his pillow.  And David knew that even though he was in deep distress…God was for him.

Friends, I do not know what difficulties you are facing today or how many tears you have cried or how many sleepless nights you have faced…But this I know – God sees you and is for you!

3. We can experience the abundant life now!

Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts!  We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple.  By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness. (Psalm 65:4,5)

So many times we’ve heard the Christian cliche, “God has a wonderful plan for your life”.  In times of heartache, it can sound trite but may we always remember that God DOES have a wonderful plan for us!

It doesn’t mean that life will always be comfortable and easy but it does mean in the end –  the enemy who is trying to steal, kill and destroy – loses!  And it also means, that the abundant and rich gifts of the Holy Spirit are ours right now!

4. Jesus is in the Psalms!

There are many prophecies in Psalm 69 that were fulfilled in the New Testament. One example is:

It was foretold that Jesus would be hated by the world.

Psalms 69:4 says: More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause.”

This prophecy was fulfilled in John 15:23-25.

Whoever hates me hates my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ‘They hated me without a cause.’

The preview of Jesus in the Messianic Psalms should be an encouragement to us today that God’s Word is true!  Prophecy proves that God’s Word is true and we can stand firm on His Word.  Justice is coming and in the end God will reward those who are faithful.

What God says he will do…

He will do!

5.  In times of temptation, God must be our strength.

My flesh and my heart may fail, BUT GOD is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you. BUT FOR ME it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works. (Psalm 73:26-28)

In times of temptation – your flesh and your heart may fail but God!  BUT GOD!  He is our strength!

We must draw near to God and make him our refuge.  Then and only then can we tell of the wonderful works he has done in our lives!  Keep running to Jesus as your safe haven.  He is with you and He loves you!

6. There are surprise blessings that come from wresting with God.

I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah (Psalm 77:1-3)

All of the words that describe Asaph’s prayer show intentionality and effort.  He cried.  He sought the Lord. He stretched out his hand to the Lord.  He remembered God.  He meditated and he made a diligent search to understand God.

As Asaph wrestled with God, he began to remember the wonderful works of the Lord.  He worked hard to remember.  He pondered and meditated over and over all the ways he could remember God working in his own life and the lives of of his people.  Then it happened- his heart began to be encouraged and he turned toward worship.

7.) Let God be your rest in the midst of your restlessness.

Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Selah (Psalm 84:3,4)

Do you feel restless?  God is a home and a refuge to the humble and restless.  We are deeply loved by God and it’s in Him that we can find comfort and rest.

8. Learning to number our days is the most important math we’ll ever do.

12 Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom… (Psalm 90:12)

Life is short and uncertain.

Wisdom is learned not automatic.  In our youth, it seems like we are immortal and untouchable and like our lives are going to last forever. But as we age and we begin to lose loved ones or face health issues, we realize life is less certain than we thought.  For some, this is reason for despair but for those who believe in Jesus, it should cause us to grow wiser.

9.  Those who rebel against God have no chance of winning.

The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.  Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting. (Psalm 93:1,2)

Our God is the King of Kings!  He is robed in majesty.  He is strong, mighty and supreme over all creation. He has all authority, all sovereignty, all power, and all dominion!  He is magnificent, beautiful, supreme in his splendor and none compares to him.

Even when the wicked seem to be winning — do not worry…

Those who rebel against God have no chance of winning.

The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords reigns forever.

Final Conclusion:

10.  Praise His name forever!

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!

Give thanks to him; bless his name!
(Psalm 100:4)

Our God is good, gracious, forgiving and full of mercy. He will be faithful to us forever. Because of his faithfulness and our salvation, we can give thanks to Him and praise His name forever!

Keep Walking with the King,
