4 injured in Saticoy-area chain-reaction crash

Four people were sent to local hospitals with injuries after a chain-reaction crash in the Saticoy area, authorities said Thursday. 

California Highway Patrol officers responded at 5:41 p.m. Wednesday to the major collision on Highway 126 east of Wells Road in Saticoy, authorities said.

A 21-year-old Santa Paula man was driving a 2001 Lexus GS300 east on the highway when he failed to slow for traffic and his vehicle hit the rear of another one, CHP reported. This caused a chain-reaction crash involving three more eastbound vehicles, according to authorities. 

The Lexus driver complained of chest pain and was taken to Santa Paula Hospital, according to CHP. The agency said the injury was considered major.

CHP said that also in the wreck:

  • A 76-year-old Santa Paula man in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am suffered a broken chin, hematoma and major head injury. He was taken to Ventuira County Medical Center in Ventura, according to CHP.
  • A 70-year-old Fillmore woman in a 2015 Honda Accord suffered major injuries including a broken right leg and head pain. She was taken to VCMC. 
  • A 55-year-old woman in a 2016 Kia Sorrento suffered back pain that was considered a minor injury and was taken to VCMC.
  • A 45-year-old woman in a 2015 Toyota Prius suffered no injuries. 

An eastbound lane of the highway was closed for a time after the crash.

Alcohol and/or drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash, according to CHP.
