MDARD releases emergency hemp rules

The Michigan Department of Agriculture has announced temporary rules to test industrial hemp this year.

Director Gary McDowell says the department has granted 900 licenses to growers and processors and more than 32,000 acres are growing the crop this year.

“We really hope this is going to be a great crop for Michigan and really help our growers.”

The emergency rules set sampling and testing methods for measuring THC levels in industrial hemp and will be in place for six months with the ability be extended an additional six months.
