Chinn keeping eye on dryness, too

Missouri’s ag director is keeping an eye on changing weather conditions in the state. Speaking at the Farm Bureau building at the Missouri State Fair on Monday, Chris Chinn said she’s aware of the abnormally dry conditions moving into Nodaway and Worth Counties in northwest Missouri.

“And we’re hoping those counties that are suffering with those very dry conditions get the rain that they need. But, if we need to, we’ll start working on a disaster declaration, if necessary, for those two counties as well.”

Chinn says assessments continue for the USDA disaster declaration request because of flood damage.

“They’re still working on it. We know we’re not the only state that’s been impacted, so, we got our request in there and these things just kind of take time.”

Chinn says the FSA is monitoring the conditions as flood waters recede and will use that information to determine aid for farmers.
