Motorists who regularly travel through Fayetteville on U.S. 30 may want to consider alternate routes in the coming weeks.

A contractor will begin work to repair and resurface a 3.24-mile stretch of Lincoln Way East through Fayetteville on Aug. 26, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. About 15,000 vehicles travel through the area on an average day.

The $2,651,004 project will be done by Cottle's Asphalt Maintenance Inc. of Bedford County. The project includes curb cut work required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, clearing drainage pipe, inlet replacement and adjustment work, roadway base replacement and removal of the top layer of asphalt within the curbed areas, followed by resurfacing the roadway with a 3-inch Superpave warm-mix asphalt overlay, and installation of new guiderail, signs and pavement markings.

The project is scheduled to take place through November.

Work will take place between Norlo Drive in Guilford Township and Pa. 997 in Greene Township. Travel lanes will not be restricted between peak traffic times, from 6 to 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 6 p.m., PennDOT said. However, motorists may encounter lane shifts. Single-lane restrictions may otherwise be used during daylight hours as crews conduct drainage and base repair work and remove the top layer of asphalt.

Work may be scheduled overnight, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., later this year for paving to be completed.

PennDOT advises motorists to allow for additional travel time or seek alternate routes.
