Fire at Pennsylvania day care center kills 5 children, police investigating

A fire in Pennsylvania claimed the lives of five children on Sunday morning, according to authorities. 

The fire in Erie was reported around 1:15 a.m. Sunday at the address listed for Harris Family Day Care, according to reports from GoErie.com. 

The victims, who ranged in age from 8 months to 7 years old, were reportedly staying at the daycare in the residence.

Valerie Lockett-Slupski, the grandmother of four of the victims, said her grandchildren, two boys and two girls, were 8, 6, 4 and 10 months old. They were staying at the Harris Family Daycare because their parents were working overnight.

The owner of the house and operator of the daycare, Elaine Harris, was taken to UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of injuries and is in stable condition, GoErie.com reports. 

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
