Expansion projects planned at WellSpan Summit Health campus

Staff report

A half-million-dollar grant through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program will allow WellSpan Summit Health to continue to make improvements to a large medical campus, formerly known as the Summit Health Center, in the north end of Chambersburg.

The campus, located off St. Paul Drive, consists of two large medical buildings housing primary care, specialty care, lab and imaging services.  The $500,000 grant, awarded August 1 to Chambersburg Health Services, an affiliate of WellSpan Summit Health will be used for site work on the campus, where several multi-phased expansion projects are being planned.

“We are so grateful to Representative (Rob) Kauffman and Senator (Doug) Mastriano for their advocacy in obtaining this grant,” explained President and CEO of WellSpan Summit Health, Pat O’Donnell. “The grant will enable us to continue to realize our organization’s mission of offering comprehensive care to our local community by expanding the services needed here in Franklin County, that our friends and neighbors do not need to travel for the care they deserve.”

According to O’Donnell, a timeline for the projects has not been determined, but the site work and preparation is the needed first-step in outlining the rest of the plans.

“As our community continues to grow, we continue to grow to serve their needs,” he explained. “Our teams are now doing their due diligence to determine what services we need to expand or even bring to the region to best serve our community.”

Summit Health joined WellSpan Health, a health care system serving communities throughout southcentral Pennsylvania, in November.
