A Kentucky man is in Franklin County Jail, denied bail, following a stabbing on Saturday in Chambersburg.

Ashley Stephen Davis, 39, of Louisville is charged with attempted homicide, as well as a felony count each of aggravated assault and possession of an instrument of crime, according to court records.

Davis was sitting on the front porch, covered in a large amount of blood, when police responded at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday to a home in the 500 block of South Main Street for a reported domestic dispute, Chambersburg police wrote in charging documents.

A large amount of blood was also found at the front door, in the first-floor hallway and in the kitchen. Drops and smears of blood were found in multiple places. A blood trail led out the back door off the kitchen, along the sidewalk on the south side of the house, and continued down the sidewalk on South Main Street.

After being detained without incident, Davis told police he stabbed a woman in self defense, documents state.

He said he'd gone to the home to retrieve his property, but the woman locked him out. He punched through a window in the front door to get inside.

The woman was holding a knife when he got inside, Davis told police. He said he took it from her and stabbed her with it to defend himself, documents state.

Davis said she ran out of the home, and he followed her. When police asked why he did that, Davis refused to answer any more questions, documents state.

Police previously said Davis and the woman were taken to an undisclosed trauma center to be treated for severe injuries. Davis' injuries resulted from him breaking into the home, police said.

Davis' preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Aug. 13 in Franklin County Central Court.

Unrelated stabbing at local bar

The stabbing on South Main Street was the second one Chambersburg police responded to Saturday.

Officers were dispatched at about 2:15 a.m. for a reported stabbing at Relax Lounge, 1580 Orchard Ave.

Clayton Lovelace

Police detained Clayton Cruise Lovelace, 31, as he was walking into the parking lot, police wrote in charging documents. The stabbing victim and a witness had described a suspect who matched his description, whom they said left after the incident.

Lovelace asked "is the guy I poked OK," documents state.

Video surveillance showed Lovelace stabbing a man, who confronted him following a previous altercation he had with another person, documents state. The first person had fled the scene after hitting Lovelace, a move police said appeared to be an attempt to deflect a knife the defendant was holding.

Lovelace left, then returned a short time later and was taken into custody. He told police he left several personal items, including the knife, in a tree where he had been hiding.

The stabbing victim was taken to Chambersburg Hospital.

Lovelace faces a felony count of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count each of simple assault and disorderly conduct. He was put in Franklin County Jail Saturday morning, and was released later that day after a bondsman posted $5,000 bail, court records state.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 13 in Franklin County Central Court.
