Arkansas rice 58% and 83% cotton called good to excellent

Warm weather continues to advance Arkansas crops.  According to the latest crop report from the USDA, 58 percent of the rice crop is rated good to excellent with 55 percent of the crop headed and 5 percent mature.

Eighty-three percent of the cotton crop is rated good to excellent with 91 percent of the crop setting bolls and 21 percent mature.

Fifty-three percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent with 88 percent of the crop blooming and 74 percent setting pods. 

Fifty-three percent of the corn crop is rated good to excellent with 85 percent in the dough stage and 65 percent dented. 

Eighty-eight percent of the peanut crop is called good to excellent. 

The hay crop is rated 83 percent good to excellent, with several producers on their second cutting of hay.  Glenda Sutherlin of Union County says this is the best hay crop they’ve raised in years.

Fifty-six percent of topsoil and 66 percent of subsoil moisture is rated adequate to surplus.
