U.S. Grains Council elects new chairman

Darren Armstrong, a producer from Belhaven, North Carolina, is the incoming chairman of the U.S. Grains Council.

Armstrong was elected as the U.S. Grains Council Chairman today during the 59th Board of Delegates meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He says strengthening markets and trade relationships are top of mind as he begins the new role.

“China is weighing on everyone’s mind and we also need to get the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement finalized,” he says. “I think (the USMCA) has support, but we need to get it across the finish line.”

Each chairman picks a theme to set the tone for the coming year. Armstrong says his theme is: make something happen.

“What we need to do is to get out, find the markets, clear up the red tape, and do what we need to do to bring down barriers to trade and make them happen not just hope they happen,” he says.

Armstrong will serve until July 2020.
