2019-S Proof silver eagles: Special NGC labels and designations available

The U.S. Mint will release a second Proof Silver Eagle this year, this one struck at San Francisco. Special submission instructions must be followed. See the “Submission Instructions” section of this article.

The U.S. Mint will open sales of the 2019-S Proof Silver Eagle on August 6. Struck at San Francisco, this is the second mint location to strike Proof Silver Eagles this year. The West Point Mint, which strikes most Proof Silver Eagles, released its version in January.

Minted since 1986, the Silver Eagle has broad appeal to collectors for both its metal content and the beauty of its design. The obverse features the venerable design from the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, while the reverse showcases a heraldic eagle from John Mercanti, the renowned former Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. The 2019-S Proof Silver Eagle includes the “S” mint mark of the San Francisco Mint.

@John Q. Coinage says,” I think in the current market 500k is not unreasonable.”

OK…Fair Enough. You’re the Mint Director

As the Mint Director, Tell me How you are going to SPECIFICALLY divide 500k between Peace and Morgan?

As the Mint Director, Tell Me How you are going to SPECIFICALLY divide you Morgan mintage between “P” “S” and “CC”?

As the Mint Director, Tell Me How you are going to SPECIFICALLY divide the Above two Lines between Proof and Uncirculated?

When you get all that done, I will tell you where you will Not have a chance of getting a coin…

    Example:

250,000 Peace $1 between Proof and Uncirculated from Philadelphia

100,000 Morgan $1 Proof and Uncirculated with “CC” mint mark

75,000 Morgan $1 Proof and Uncirculated with “S” mint mark

75,000 Morgan $1 Proof and Uncirculated from Philadelphia

That’s a Total of 500,000 coins and the 250,000 Morgan’s will be BO within 3 minutes. The 250,000 Peace will be BO within 5 minutes.

Now that 3 minutes and 5 minutes will be about 13 minutes and 15 minutes because the Mint’s website will crash for the first 10 minutes…

  3. John Q. Coinage says

Cag – I think you’re #s are in the realm. The #s you cite may have been a few years ago. Sell out 250k coins in 3m & 5min for 500k. The site would be like the Hindenburg and b;low up the site IF the demand was that strong. I am a real long term coin person, but I think it’s a different world. The markup on these may be astronomical & the 90 v. 99% ag maybe an issue for some. As Mint director, for the best availability & distribution I think offer the mint to order for 30 days, or order for 30days & mint/ship thereafter. A total of 500k across all may be a sellout, may not. IF they went to 600k that would maybe be better 1m = no legs in the after market depending on the mintage #s. When I went to the USM research group, these were going to be medals! Coins are 1,000x better, but I think someone will be unhappy no matter what. Congress has made such crappy Commem bills/subjects of late that this will likely be a Home Run. The SF Mint Commem a few years ago had PROOF & Unc Morgan reverses, not as sharp as the originals, but decent. I also see over-hyped as a adjective when it is passed…..”… tough to make all happy here @ the mint but we try to keep Mike M happy” Alternative 125k MAX from EACH OPTION- 0rder as you plese- as the CC’s will be the target!!

The 2019 W American Legion $5 uncirculated gold coins seem to be selling poorly, but not as poorly as the 2017 Boys Town $5 uncirculated gold coins.

Do you think that sales for the American Legion coin will beat those for the Boys Town coin?

If the 500,000 holds, then you are probably not far off. The larger sets that include All coins (8 in your example) or All Morgans or one of each finish would be gone in a hot minute. After that it would be crisis mode with everyone frantically piecing together their sets or whatever they can get.

  8. Dustyroads says

So Krates, Two small imperfections that look like holes on the obverse to the lower right of Liberty’s lower head. They look like casting or planchet flaws. I had at first thought the U’s look odd too, but changed my mind and decided that they all did in `21.

  9. So Krates says

@ Dustyroads – Yes the dot between the stars at 4-5 o’clock looks weird. The two holes at 3 o’clock look like a ding from another coin’s reeded edge. There are some spots in front of the face that look like they could be casting dots but I think it’s the pollutants on the coin forming weird patterns that’s causing the skepticism. Unless one is purposefully assembling an ugly coin collection (like a low ball set?) I see no reason to purchase that POS

I think I love those Kennedy ornaments even though they want $25 for a clad half-dollar.

Gimmicky, but everything is gimmicky until it becomes a standard offering.

I hope these become a standard offering from the mint.

  13. just another dave in pa says

What can be frustrating is the perception of a Christmas ornament without explicitly calling it a Christmas ornament and thereby attempting to do a runaround of the separation of Church and State clause.

The 2 I received were the same as you described. At first I was a little bummed. Then I decided to carefully tap the product on my coffee table in the direction the dollar needed to move, while holding open. This allowed me to view its progress and either continue or rotate and gently(gently flex/squeeze) while tapping and you should be able to center it. One was a bit more stuck and did take a little longer to center. No damage to packaging! I guess if you’re concerned about damage you could lie a dish/ hand towel down to better protect the edge of the packaging while tapping. If so, the dampening of the vibration may require one to tap hard(too)) and possibly bend packaging? Sending these back when this is a relatively simple fix, seems like too much hassle to me?
Not sure if these NA C&C sets were sent out like this or the $1 bill shifted while being knocked around in shipping?

Good luck to all, however you decide to handle. As I’m sure , J Moore and I, are not the only ones this happened to? Hope this helps some of you out there!

The quality of the 2019 Native American Sets(19NR) are below par. On one of my sets,on the front device it has 2 contacts marks on Sacagawea’s cheek. If I did not know anybetter I would call them bag marks, I would think the mint would handle these coins with special care. I would return it but the $bill ends in my favorite number 21. The Dollar bills not fully seated in it’s holder. Check on ebay for sets that are on sale to compare, and mine bill was not the only one, probably common.
