LANSING TWP. — Police are looking to identify a man who is accused of riding up to multiple women on a bike and hitting them on the buttocks.

Lansing Township Police Chief John Joseph said two women reported that the man shown in photos provided by police had come up behind the women on a bicycle and "smack[ed] them on their rear ends."

The first assault was reported to have happened Wednesday, and the second on Saturday. Both took place in the Groesbeck neighborhood, Joseph said.

Police believe this man assaulted two women in Lansing Township on July 17 and July 20.

A similar assault occurred in East Lansing on Friday, Michigan State University said in an alert sent out to the community.

East Lansing police reported that a black man in his early 20s wearing a dark T-shirt had sexually assaulted a woman in the parking lot of Tabooli on Grand River Avenue near Harrison Road. Joseph said the assault was similar to what happened in Lansing Township.

The man was last seen riding a dark bicycle west on Grand River Avenue.

Joseph said he is not able to say if the Lansing Township assaults are connected to the one in East Lansing.

Anyone with information on these assaults or the man in the photos can contact the Lansing Township Police Department at 517-485-1700.
