A York Haven man was killed in a fiery early morning crash in New York state last week.

Scott Rorapaugh, 61, died July 17 after his tractor-trailer filled with fertilizer and paper products caught fire after colliding with an overturned rig carrying produce. His identity was released by New York State Police on Monday.

Everon J. Meadows of Springfield, Massachusetts was traveling northbound on I-87 when he fell asleep and drifted off the road near Glens Falls, New York, shortly before 3:30 a.m., according to New York state police reports. He then struck a guide rail, lost control, and the tractor-trailer rolled onto its passenger side with the cab coming to rest in the right-hand lane of the road.

Rorapaugh, who was driving a tractor-trailer for Lebanon County-based New Penn Motor Express Inc., struck Meadow’s cab, ripping the cab from the trailer, police said. Meadows was outside of the tractor-trailer when the crash occurred.

Meadows' cab and Rorapaugh’s tractor-trailer became fully engulfed in flames, killing the York Haven man. The incident closed the road for more than 14 hours.

A gathering for Rorapaugh’s friends and family will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at Hoover Funeral Home and Crematory, 88 Lucy Ave., Hershey.
