Tennessee crops: 74% cotton and 82% soybeans rated good to excellent

Remnants of Tropical Storm Barry brought needed moisture to parts of Tennessee last week.  According to the latest Crop and Weather report, the rains helped improve crop conditions.

Seventy-four percent of the cotton crop is rated good to excellent with 79 percent squaring and 24 percent setting bolls.

Eighty-two percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent with 56 percent of the crop blooming and 27 percent setting pods.

Eighty-five percent of the corn crop is rated good to excellent, 88 percent of the crop is silking, and 45 percent is in the dough stage.

The hay crop is ready for another cutting, but rains are keeping producers out of the field and waiting for more favorable conditions.

Topsoil moisture is ranted 91 percent adequate to surplus and Subsoil moisture is rated 82 percent adequate to surplus.
