Community invited to participate in Sept. 15 Kindness Festival

Joan Maruskin
Earlier this fall 1,000 students from York County created art entries for the Kids Kindness Poster Competition. The competition was part of 10,000 Acts of Kindness, a project in York that celebrates unity.

Celebrating York’s Unity through 10,000 Acts of Kindness, will hold its multi-cultural festival on September 15th in Penn Park, 100 W. College Ave, York, from 2 to 6 p.m.

At the  event, 10,000 area residents will gather for entertainment, a community resource fair, and activities for children of all ages.  We will also break bread together,  to celebrate the kindnesses that have been gifted throughout the year and brought us over 10,000 steps closer to full unity.  You are invited to do an act of kindness and be among the participants.

The free family friendly event will be a gathering of the kind people of York, individually and in groups, who have earned places at the table for thousands though doing acts of kindness.

The Kindness Celebration begins at 2 p.m with a resource fair, activities, and entertainment. A light meal (free to all) will be served at 4 p.m.  Activities will continue until 6 p.m.

Everyone is invited to bring their own (non-alcoholic) beverages and snacks for the afternoon. We also invite schools, groups, businesses, families, friends, and individuals to share their identity and kindness through table decorations, signs, balloons, clothing and creative imagination. Share the good news of your kindness with others.

Organizations, businesses, faith based, and community groups are invited to participate in the Community Resource Fair, by showcasing your information and activities. We encourage organizations to provide children’s games and activities, whenever possible.

Street entertainers are also being sought to be an informal part of the event, by sharing their unique talents during the event and throughout the crowd.  Jugglers, magicians, human statues, unicycle riders, caricaturists, bubble artists, poets, and others, are welcome to apply to participate.  (This will be ground level entertainment in addition to the onstage entertainment, which will be taking place during the event.)
