Weather flip flops to cool and dry

A meteorologist says a major jet stream by the end of this week should flip flop weather conditions and bring cooler temperatures.

Jeff Andresen with Michigan State University says the recent heatwave across much of the Upper Midwest helped push growing degree days closer to normal but poor root development continues to stress crops.

“The crop goes into a defensive mode and slows down a little bit so that’s not a good thing.  But, the warmer than normal temperatures have at least accelerated crop growth.”

He says growing degree days in parts of Ohio and Indiana are a little ahead of normal.

Precipitation is expected to be limited this week as part of the cool down.

“It probably will be drier with fewer than normal chances for precipitation.”

Andresen expects the remainder of July to have similar conditions.
