2 accused of stealing thousands worth of medicine

Two Los Angeles residents are accused of stealing nearly $5,000 worth of medication from drugstores, according to Simi Valley police. 

In one of the thefts, police said Jamarco James Childs, 37, and Taneake Clydenisha Smith, 26, stole $2,100 worth of over-the-counter medication from a CVS in the 2800 block of Cochran Street in Simi.

Simi Valley police said they identified Childs and Smith as suspects and that officers observed them committing two similar crimes in less than 30 minutes on Wednesday. The suspects were taken into custody in Cypress while in possession of more than $2,700 in stolen over-the-counter medication, police reported. 

Childs and Smith were arrested on suspicion of felony organized retail theft and booked into Ventura County jail, according to police. They have been released on bail and are due in Ventura County Superior Court at 8:15 a.m. Aug. 2, according to jail records.

The Ventura County Auto Theft Task Force assisted Simi Valley police in the investigation.
