Meth, gun lead to Oxnard arrests, police say

Staff reports

Oxnard police said a report of BB gun brandishing led to the arrests of two people who were on probation.

At 7:45 a.m. Thursday, officers were sent to the 1400 block of Guava Street to investigate a report of a woman brandishing and discharging a BB gun in the alley while accompanied by a man.

A witness said the pair left in a vehicle, and officers found one nearby matching its description and contacted Alejandro Portillo and a woman. Both are 21-year-old residents of Oxnard who are on probation, police reported.

Alejandro Portillo was arrested after a gun and narcotics were found, according to Oxnard police.

As allowed under their probation, police said they searched the vehicle and found a .22-caliber rifle cut down to under 26 inches, a felony. Police said they also found narcotic smoking devices and discovered Portillo and the woman were in possession of methamphetamine.

Portillo was arrested on suspicion of drug and firearms possession violations, and the woman was arrested on suspicion of drug possession, police said.
